MahaGPT launched by MITRA and IIT Bombay at AI Impact Summit 2026 enables AI-powered search across 150,000 government resolutions to strengthen governance and citizen participation in Maharashtra.
At the AI Impact Summit 2026, the Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA), in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and BharatGen, announced the launch of #MahaGPT — a compact language model built to query over 150,000 Government Resolutions (GRs) and regulations related to land and urban development.
The initiative aims to strengthen evidence-based decision-making, enhance policy transparency and enable citizen participation by making complex regulatory documents easily searchable and understandable.

AI for Governance & Capacity Building
During a panel organised by the Department of Information Technology, Government of Maharashtra, leaders discussed how the state is:

- Transitioning skilling strategies from purely cognitive roles to more applied, skill-based domains
